How does this rum taste?
The Saint James 2001 rum, distilled in Martinique, presents a refined profile with a balance between its 10-year barrel aging and the natural flavors of sugarcane juice. Users note the dominant aromas of vanilla and wood, with hints of tropical fruit and leather. On the palate, it offers a woody and vanilla depth, complemented by sugarcane, cinnamon, and a dry finish. While praised for its complexity and refined characteristics, some find the wood influence slightly overwhelming. This agricole rum is an accessible introduction to aged varieties from the Saint James distillery, suited for those seeking a harmonious blend of traditional agricole elements and maturation-related notes.

I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 24,000 bottlings, 250,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 47,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.
I really like the smell with its mixture of tart fruit and spicy oak. In the mouth, unfortunately, I have to fight my way through too much wood and acidity for my taste to get back to the appealing fruit flavors and spices. However, I've had it in my glass several times now and each time I've tasted it a little better, which is why I can well imagine that it will become even more appealing as the level in the bottle decreases.
A pretty OK Saint James where the price matches what you get. Fresh and fruity with nice spices and roasted wood. I like the caramel note in the profile and the empty glass has some chocolate and cinnamon.
