How does this rum taste?
- Sweet vanilla aroma
- Good for cocktails
- Affordable price point
Sangsom Special Rum, originating from Thailand and bottled by Thai Beverage Marketing, is distilled from molasses and stands at 40% ABV. It presents a complex aroma featuring vanilla, spices, and citrus notes, although some users report an overpowering alcohol presence. The flavor mirrors the nose with pronounced vanilla and sugar, but is often noted as thin and lacking depth. Although some find its medicinal endnotes off-putting, it serves well in cocktails. Commonly recommended for mixing rather than sipping, many users suggest using it to add a sweet touch to drinks. This rum is described as a good party choice, especially for cocktails.

"Thai rum produced from rice. I think it’s slightly better than its brother, Mehkong. Not to be drunk neat, but it works well as a party drink mixed with 1/4 Coke or Sprite. There have been some bottles ordered in Bangla Road, Phuket. Have a bottle in my Rum Bar just to remind me of those heydays."
"5,8:On the nose is very thin, sweet, with hints of sugar cane, herbs, rosemary, basil, caramel and coffee. Some cinnamon, rose water, vanilla, white chocolate and some cream arise. 5,5:On the palate, it is weak, thin with ripe fruits:mango, some nuts, coconut, cinnamon, nutmeg. At least it is rather creamy. 5:The finish is light and faint, almost as it has never came through with some fruit, caramel and soy."
"Not much on the nose. Subtle hints of vanilla and popcorn, a touch of lemony citrus. The palate is just as light as the nose. Sweet and sour with a little medicinal note in the mix. The finish doesn't hang around for long. The medicinal note clings the the mouth the longest. Super subtle. Not sure what to say about it. Not much to be offended by or admire."
"Rhum thaï, très bien pour les cocktails."
