Velier Foursquare Absolutio 2009

First impression: Oh yes!!! After the failure with the Raconteur, which I personally didn't like that much, only the Absolutio. The combination of bourbon and port barrel works really well in my opinion. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. Nice and soft and velvety to drink, beautiful dark color and pretty curtains in the glass. At 179€, it's also cheaper than its predecessor. From what I remember of the Velier Foursquare Crosstasting, it stands out from the others and would be at the top of my list. I think this will be my new favorite Foursquare.

Incredibly tasty and dangerously sweet Foursquare. First comes the Foursquare with coconut macaroons, cinnamon cookies, Medjoul dates and banana. Then the port finish comes in full broadside and adds beautiful notes of cinnamon, orange peel, herbs, caramel and dried fig, but does not completely dominate the rum. Really very, very tasty and a lot of fun! For me - even if it's developed differently - it's on a par with the Plenipotenzario. At least in terms of the fun factor!😃💯💣🇧🇧

Rich and full flavor - long aftertaste. Is it worth the money - that can be debated, but it is worth its points 👍🏻

Wow, the Redoutable has some competition for me as the best FS :-) Phenomenally round nose, reminiscent of a wonderfully fruity box of chocolates enhanced by spices. In the mouth fruity, caramel, spicy, very roasty, strong barrel influence. Medium-long finish, again very fruity with roasted nuts and vanilla. Not bad, on the contrary: excellent. Compared to the Detente, the Absolutio is significantly stronger, as the Detente simply lacks power. Also better than the MG Port, but not too much.

#4982 18.12.2024 Enjoying a few samples at home. Nose Wood, fruity, light caramel, medium intense, prunes, light chocolate, spice, light anise. Palate Balanced, round, wood, light roasted, light coconut, light earthy, raisin, light cherry, light chocolate. Finish Long, wood, light tannins, light coconut, chocolate, spice, light earthy, raisin. A really well balanced rum with good ABV integration. The empty glass has nice caramel, light leather and light wine notes.

Great smell, cocoa, cinnamon and also the slightly sweet smell of port can be perceived. In the mouth, the sweetness of the port wine, dried fruit paired with spice and wood. Nicely intense due to the very well-integrated alcohol. I like it very, very much!

Today there are two Foursquare: 1. covenant: This one tastes like it looks. Lots of dark fruit, somewhat leathery and dry on the palate. The cask influence is very strong, almost too strong. You have to know what you're getting into, but if you like it, you won't be disappointed. The alcohol is well integrated. Delicious Foursquare that I could imagine really enjoying from time to time! 2nd Absolutio: Awesome piece! There are no surprises on the nose or palate in terms of aromas. Mouth-filling, starts silky and pleasantly oily towards the finish. Pleasantly (dry) woody and chocolaty-fruity, great balance. The finish is very long and offers an interplay between dried fruit wrapped in chocolate and wood. I particularly like rums with these long, great finishes and that's what makes this rum for me! YummY🤤🤤 For me this is one of the best 5 rum from foursquare! The alcohol is also better integrated as is the most bottling from them. I really liked this blend! For me Foursquare and the Port finish is just a perfect match😎🥃

Spirits Museum Tasting 29th of March 2025. A powerful but not aggressive nose, complex, with wood varnish, port cask, overripe fruit, red fruit and a pastry side with coconut. On the palate, the Port influence is clear, but blends perfectly with the other aromas: vanilla, cask, dried and tropical fruits. The pastry side that sometimes weighs down Foursquare is well framed here and adds complexity. The finish is balanced and moderately long. A very, very fine Foursquare

Makes a very interesting visual impression, which is also due to the port cask. Incredibly intense nose, the alcohol is very well integrated. Absolute explosion of flavor in the mouth with an incredibly long finish. A truly excellent rum.

The color in the glass is already very impressive! Deep mahogany with red-brown reflections. The nose is full of juicy dark raisins, fully ripe banana and spice. The port cask is also easily recognizable (heavy sweet port). Also reminds me of maraschino cherries. The port cask has rounded off the rum very well and, in my opinion, fits in very well with the Foursquare profile. On the palate, the rum is consistent with the nose. The medium to long finish brings no surprises, everything is very balanced, round and pleasing. I'm not quite sure how to rate this rum. The overall impression is very good in any case. However, the port influence seems quite dominant to me. It's as if Foursquare had been mixed with port (wet cask?). Compared to other FS I know, it is very expressive, intense and round.

This is top class Foursquare in my opinion, one of the best I've had to date. It fills the mouth beautifully with a lovely oily texture! Very rich and full with unmistakable foursquare DNA, just lifted to another level. Chocolates, vanilla and wood with wonderfully integrated alcahol. A definite must for any fan of foursquare.

The aging in port cask gives it a darker side than the other foursquare coffees! Unlike the other coffees, dried fruits and dates come into play with a nice vinous part! As usual, the balance of the rum is perfect..hallmark of this distillery!

Wow, Foursquare has come up with something really nice. I can only confirm the previous reviews in full. Even on the nose, this rum is a lot of fun. The interplay of aromas between red fruits, chocolate flavors and a slight spiciness are exactly my thing. After a few minutes, a great amarena cherry aroma. The port barrel also leaves behind great aromas. Ultra-soft on the palate despite the brute 62%. Here, too, the very balanced interplay of aromas between fruit, chocolate notes and barrel influence is convincing. Alcohol perfectly integrated. Among the top 5 rums I have tasted so far, I am glad to have got hold of another bottle.

Wonderful Foursquare. A real plank. Alcohol nicely integrated. Thick, broad and heavy body! Port wine note is dominant but well flanked by wood notes, fruit and a little spice. Unfortunately the Portomonai is only enough for a 5cl sample! Re-election!
