How does this rum taste?
John Frum's Cargo Cult Navy Strength Rum is a 54.5% ABV Australian rum crafted by Sydney Rum Distillery using a pot still and aged for 3 years. Known for its marzipan, banana, and tropical fruit notes, the rum offers a balanced interplay of sweetness and spice. Reviewers highlight its intense and fruity aromas reminiscent of marshmallows and candy floss, while its palate features flavors of banana, vanilla, and creme brulee. Ideal for sipping neat or in cocktails, it delivers a fulfilling finish with wood spice nuances. Although some detect a hint of sugar, the overall experience is commendable, particularly given its price-to-value ratio.

This rum was also in the advent calendar. Finally one that has over 40 percent. Very fruity on the nose. Tropical fruits such as bananas are also clearly recognizable on the palate
A lot of its smell. Pretty thrown into technicality, banana, molasses. I'd like that. Subtle vanilla flavours with banana, esters and molasses.Very nice finish with vanilla, marzipan, molasses and fruit brandy. A good piece of work.
24 Days of Rum 2024 - Black Edition - Day 19 First impression: wow, extremely fruity and smooth, vanilla Nose: strawberry, vanilla, fruit, sweet and extremely aromatic Palate: the 54.5% initially comes through now, followed by wonderfully round aromas of fruit, vanilla, wood, pastries and toast Finish: the high ABV ensures a long finish, which also develops into chocolate Overall impression: really exciting due to the contrast between nose and palate, could also be a Jamaican. Wonderful for sipping neat and for mixers. I like the nose (as almost always) better than the palate
Bought this on reading the FatRumPirate review. It didn’t disappoint and I’m actually surprised it isn’t rated higher on here. Certainly the price to value ratio is excellent. The nose is has some of the Fijian funk I experienced with the MoM Fijian but it is less buttery and more like marshmallows and candy floss. It also has some lovely fruity notes - peaches and tropical fruits. The palate keeps many of the flavours but isn’t as sweet as expected. It has a heat and spice up front which is followed by some gentle sweetness and fruity flavours. The finish brings wood spice and vanilla. For me I’m going 8.6 based on its winning nose.
