How does this rum taste?
Long Pond’s 2005 ‘The Whisky Blues’ brings lively tropical fruit and vanilla aromas, joined by bold caramel and a noticeable glue/ester edge. The 66.1% ABV is clear, with some reviewers calling it a rum that "packs a punch" (Stijn Zino) and saying "Der erste Schluck ist munderfüllend aber mit ordentlich Biss" (Christian Rudt). There’s a sweet-sour, spicy twist on the palate, plus distinct roast, wood, and a hint of chocolate. Some find it complex and rewarding after time in the glass. A few note less fruitiness on the taste, but most agree it’s a layered, powerful spirit best enjoyed slowly.

Once again a very intense and powerful Long Pond from 2005. At first, the nose is full of glue and esters, followed by vanilla, caramel and tropical fruit after a long period of ageing. On the palate, the 66.1% alc. cannot be hidden, but is easy to handle in small doses. However, I miss the pronounced fruitiness on the palate; it switches too quickly to the spicy side. This keeps it from the top group. But only just, it remains an excellent Long Pond with an impressively rich appearance
The nose is very inviting with tropical fruits, candy floss, cinnamon, vanilla, some glue, caramel. The palate is beautifully intense with a perfumed attack, fruity notes, vanilla, caramel and a pleasant sweetness. The alcohol is well integrated and not distracting. Like all the 2005 VRWs I've tasted so far, I really like it! Edit: Tasted again against the RDL 68.5%. Both are very similar on the nose and there are hardly any differences. Initially, the RDL is a little more sticky, but this subsides with time. On the palate, the RDL is a little spicier and has more of a cask influence, while the TWB initially has slightly floral notes. For me, both are very good bottlings! In my opinion, the TWB has a super PLV!
High abv - patience is required at first. Slowly, fantastic tropical fruits greet you and delight you with beautiful aromas. There is also a lovely roasted note. The first sip is mouth-filling but with a good bite. In terms of taste, it is mainly mango that comes through later on and it lingers beautifully. A lovely long pond that needs time to develop. Be sure to smell the empty glass.
After Habitation Velier LROK 2019 ex Sherry cask, a real treat for my palate. Brings even more to the table, as I expected. Great bottling. Tasted the rest of the sample again as a mixer, and it's convincing here too.
