How does this rum taste?
Études Old Bacolet (Silk Cotton Tree) splits the room with its blend of red fruits or wine, olives, and distinctly herbal character. On the nose, expect touches of "red fruits/red wine" and just a bit of vegetal, per Rowald Sweet Empire, while the palate toggles between "olive water, brine, red fruits," and woody notes. There’s a yeasty, malty undercurrent that’s "a bit whisky-esque" and, for some, a hit of thyme or shrimp. Not your typical aged Grenada rum, and RumX members generally agree it’s memorable for its quirks.

Gas station smell + Clairin Sonson + olives + thyme 😅😋 is a bit weird, but still a great rum!
The smell is nothing like New Bacolet. It's kind of bland, a little dried fruit, a little saltiness. The palate is also more subtle and approachable. At the same time, it's not a memorable piece, which is a bit of a shame. I would take it as an aperitif, though.
Renegade are not my favourite rums and here it is confirmed again. I can smell the sweetish taste of prawns, which just doesn't suit me with rum. But it's definitely more drinkable for me than the HV Renegade, where I'm not even able to finish a glass.
Huge improvement on pre-cask old bacolet. Rounds out the taste without losing asucb on the nose. Well done
