Powerful, with a strong Oloroso sherry finish. HTR Caroni fully there, dry-sweet finish plus Wehrmacht diesel. Very smooth 61%.
This is a monster of rum. The only rum I have had that comes close to it is the Very Old navy rum from Velier (which was much more pleasurable). This Caroni a tannic beast with limited charm. It has what some Caroni fans may be looking for, but is clearly a sign of over aging, which points to why they used an Olorosso cask. No one would do this if the rum had balance. It’s extremely dark, overpowering and rather like a Napa Cab overestracted. It falls way way short of the MoM Caroni 23 which was spectacular. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. However it’s saving grace is an hour of breathing and a drop of water at which point it reveals a lot more. Tar, gasoline, dark berries at the back and a ton of oak.
