8,4:On the nose the first impression is spicy and estery with fermented fruit notes and white chocolate, almonds, soy milk, tropical fruits are overripe as papaya, banana, litchi and pear. A bit later grass and lemon peel joins, is a bit smoky. It feels like a normal proof rum, not 69%!?Well, nice alcohol integration. 8,1:On the palate, the attack is quite delicate, yet spicy, alcohol is nicely integrated, there are vanilla, cream, pears, litchi, fermented tropical fruits with some lemon peel. After some molasses with licorice might join, is salty, dry, yet balanced... 8:The finish is quite long, dry, fruity with pears, mangoes, grapes, molasses are a bit mineral. The review was made on 2024 Overproof, 98% column still, 2%pot still..
A visit to the Takamaka distillery is worthwhile! During the pandemic, the distillery has built up a second mainstay alongside its high-quality pot still made from fresh sugar cane juice from the Seychelles in very small quantities with a triple column still that works with molasses from abroad (Mauritius). This enables continuous production in large quantities, serving the cocktail and beginner segment. Triple distillation produces a very neutral rum, which is then flavored with aromas (e.g. fruit essences, cinnamon, vanilla, sometimes also with coloring and sugar). This is also the case with this rum, which is enhanced with flavors again after distillation, resulting in a rum that is very reminiscent of Dom. Rep. I can't quite understand the process. The new segment helps the distillery financially, but it does not produce a quality rum.
Very nice and smooth. Some sweetness and Charakter - should be very for drinks and daiquiris particularly.
