How does this rum taste?
- Unique wine cask influence
- Complex aroma and flavor
- Enjoyable neat sipping experience
The Plantation Riversaltes Wine Cask Rum, distilled in Barbados at West Indies distillery and bottled by Maison Ferrand, offers a diverse flavor profile. Aged for 9 years and bottled at 48.3% ABV, this rum combines notes of spice, red fruits, and wine, with underlying young wood and citrus aromas. The palate is marked by sweetness, fruity hints, and undertones of honey and tobacco, evolving into a medium finish with nutty and woody nuances. The wine cask influence is notable, providing a unique sipping experience, though some find the complexity subdued over ice or in mixes, such as with Pepsi. Ideal as a neat tasting experience, this rum is appreciated for its balanced character, despite some experiencing it as thinner than expected.

"Erstaunlich süffig. Hätte ich nicht als Rum von Barbados erkannt. Und hätte nicht gedacht, dass er eine Dosage von nur 8g/l hat, wirkt süßer."
"Already an interesting cross, coconut, vanilla barbados where the wine influence from the barrel is already very formative. Slightly smoky on the nose too. Alcohol is slightly pungent but still ok. Bottle is not necessary, but ok for tasting."
"Das Wein Fass ist schon prominent, aber gut eingebunden."
"On The Rocks: On the nose it has a VERY unique aroma of musty, wine and nuts with some mild woody notes. Taste has a strong spice up front as you would expect from a Barbados rum… but it transforms into more woody/oak notes with some initial sweetness and delayed chest burn with the musky notes slowly growing. Finish is long with the mild chest burn continuing with a spice and nut mixtures with woody notes all coming together and goes slightly bitter. This is a very unique rum that I don’t think I have experienced anywhere else. This is not a flavour bomb but is also something neat yet different. This is enjoyable as a sipper over ice as a gentleman’s drink. Mixed Pepsi Zero: On the nose musky Pepsi Zero. Taste is slightly sweet but almost all the complexity is washed away. It would be a waste to drink this mixed."
