Plantation El Salvador 2015 Red Pineau des Charentes Wine Cask

A lighter nutty, beautifully drinkable affair.

Masterclass mit Alexandre Gabriel am 04.04.2024. Plantation wird Planteray. Alles in allem ein trinkbarer Rum. Für das was es beim Tasting sonst noch gab, eher im vorderen Drittel mit einzuordnen. Aber leider nicht das, wo ich unbedingt Nachschub bräuchte davon.

Un rhum doux. Au nez, un parfum de vanille. Au goût, le coté alcooleux ressort de manière bien maîtrisée puis laisse apparaitre ensuite des notes de bananes. Un rhum rond et réconfortant.

Anfangs dachte ich, na ja, spanischer Stil eben, wird mir nicht viel geben. Aber dann hat mir der Rum als Starter in den Abend doch ganz gut geschmeckt. Leichte Kokosnote, die ich bei Venezuela nicht erwartet hätte, aber auch etwas scharf, Alkohol könnte also besser eingebunden sein.

Leichte Süße, rote Früchte, Weinnoten, floral und irgendwie eine störende Note von Pappkarton. Das ist irgendwie so gar nicht meins, bin aber auch kein Fan von Weinfinishings. Transparenz: kostenloses Sample im Rahmen der Rum-X Masterclass

Der nächste annehmbare Plantation. Hier haben wir eine eher süße Nase, Vanille und Karamell, aber auch Haselnuss ist erkennbar. Am Gaumen kommt dann noch etwas Scjokolade hinzu, finde ihn aber etwas zu alkoholischen, trotzdem gut.

An der Nase zeigt sich der Rum leicht, süß und fruchtig. Die alkoholische Note verfliegt schnell. Am Gaumen nicht optimal eingebundener Alkohol, Früchte und Würze. Insgesamt recht leicht. Das ändert sich zum Nachklang hin. Hier trumpft der Rum mit intensiver Würze und Fassnoten. In Summe ganz passabel und geeignet um Rum aus El Salvador kennen zu lernen, nicht mehr und nicht weniger.

#4683 04.04.2024 Online tasting wit RumX and Plantaray. Nose Light, sweet, intense, prunes, light caramel, fruity. Palate Round, sweet, fruity, spice, light caramel, light spicy, citrus, medium dry. Finish Medium long, light wood, spices, light citrus, faint caramel, medium dry. The empty glass had very light floral notes and vanilla.

Die harmonische Nase dieses spanischen Rums ist leider etwas schwach für 49%. Im Mund kann der Rum mit mehr Intensität überzeugen, kräftig und vielschichtig genug. Einziges Manko ist die alkoholische Schärfe im Mund und Abgang.

Again, having this half blind with only knowing the origin, not the cask or ABV. I expected and got a rum more on the lighter side, which came true especially for the nose. Additionaly I got already a bit more alcoholic sharpness there which then translated to the palate: intense and a bit sharp, coming mainly from the alcohol. There was some fruit (I guess the wine cask finish) which I did not expect in this form at the Spanish style rum. It is also on the sweeter side, as most of the product range. It was easy to drink, but also more driven by the maturation in the wine cask and the higher ABV than the rum's own body. A bit different and thus interesting, and I believe a good fit for Plantations/Planterays target audience.

RumX masterclass Planteray, 4.4.24, live mit Alexandre Gabriel. Nachtasting. Nase: sehr fruchtig, fast schon blumig. Passionsfrucht mit Papaya und Mandarine mit Orange. Dazu Veilchen-Duft. Karamell und Toffee mit Vanille geben ordentlich Süße. Hat ja auch eine leicht Dosage. Das Rotwein-Fass kann ich nicht finden (bin aber auch leicht erkältet). Zu süß, aber nett. 7,4 Gaumen: fruchtig-würzig und trocken-süß. Wirkt leider etwas verwässert und dünn. Vanille mit Muskat finden zu Apfel und Kirsche. Etwas Fass ist auch dabei. Insgesamt solide aber doch unspektakulär. 7,0

Ohne das übertönende Finish wäre das hier ein angenehm seichter Rum mit Mix-Potenzial. So ist er leider nicht Fisch, nicht Fleisch. Dosage ist zu schmecken.

Geruch süß und Schokolade, im Mund ebenfalls süß aber leider relativ flach. Schöner einfacher sipper aber nichts was bleibt.

Light and elegant rum dominated by milk chocolate, some caramel and quite some sweetness. The wine finish works pretty well, adding complexity and red fruits without overpowering the base rum. Thanks to Alexandre and the RumX Team for the masterclass!

Das Pineau des Charentes-Finish funktioniert gut, der Rum ist extrem abgerundet - vielleicht fast schon einen Ticken zu sehr. Das El Salvador-Profil bringt typischerweise keine Komplexitätsmonster hervor, insofern passt die schwere Fruchtsüsse als Ergänzung aromatisch gut ins Bild. Süffig wird der Rum dadurch zweifelsohne, angenehm zu trinken auch - grosses Spektakel sollte man hier aber nicht erwarten.
