How does this rum taste?
Most love its classic dry Foursquare profile, spicy oak and balanced power. Critics find it too woody and not special enough for an ECS. Consensus: a very good, familiar high-strength Barbados rum.
If you already enjoy ECS releases like 2011 or Nobiliary, you’ll likely appreciate Equipoise: same dry, spicy Foursquare core, just a touch more wood and subtle fruit rather than big innovation.
Beginners, those sensitive to high ABV, and drinkers seeking fruity, sweet or clearly Calvados-driven flavors rather than dry oak and spice.

Very nice and something a little bit new from Foursquare.
A complex, soft and welcoming Rum 👍🏻
Already a great color in the glass, quite dark. The typical Foursquare profile on the nose, but behind it a subtle hint of orange zest and a hint of the barrel. Very harmonious. Also very round and balanced on the palate, with the typical aromas of longer matured Foursquare ECS such as vanilla, clove and also some wood, but for me this is the first Foursquare in which I can also clearly find orange or orange zest. The finish is then medium long and slowly fades out with clove and orange zest. As expected, this Foursquare ECS doesn't reinvent Barbados rum either (you buy Foursquare, you get Foursquare - surprise!), but the orange zest makes it stand out clearly enough for my taste from the other Foursquare bottlings I know. Nobiliary, Sovereignty, now the Equipoise, I'm beginning to get the impression that you can hardly go wrong with the 14y Foursquare. I think I definitely need another bottle here and I'm curious to see how it develops over time in the air, then perhaps a better rating is possible.
