How does this rum taste?
- profil pâtissier qui le rend assez aisé à boire
- tropische Reifung und Kakao-Noten
- easy sipper for a good price
Shakara's 12-year Thai rum brings a sweet, round, pastry-like nose dominated by caramel, vanilla, and wood. Several RumX members picked up a pronounced bourbon influence and called it an "easy sipper"—with Rodolphe noting it's "le genre de bouteilles que je m'achèterais certainement en easy sipper sympa." The mouth follows with syrupy vanilla, woody sweetness and a hint of cookie dough, as HenryL puts it. Some wish for more complexity, but enjoyed the "profil pâtissier qui le rend assez aisé à boire" (@Vincent D), underlining its soft, dessert-like character.

"A pleasant discovery. A pastry profile that makes it easy to drink. Not insanely complex, but pleasant. It also appealed to the uninitiated. Edit: I'm raising my rating because the value for money is still super interesting. The bourbon brings a nice sweetness. It's easy enough to drink without being devoid of interest."
"Overall, I find this rum from Thailand quite sweet. It's quite good to drink neat, better than I would have thought. More in the easy sipping category. As a mixer in the CubaLibre, it's also on the sweet vanilla sugar side. Nice to have tried, but I wouldn't need any more of it now."
"On the nose, I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful tropical ripeness and cocoa notes. The palate is then somewhat one-dimensional, even if it has something interesting at its core."
"Very pleasing nose, very sweet, tending towards cookie dough with woody hints of coffee. Smells like a nice sipper. Unfortunately quite one-dimensional in the mouth, has something of a sweetish bourbon."
