How does this rum taste?
The "Straight from the Barrel No. 88 Vevert" from Neisson Distillery in Martinique is a 2018 vintage rum, crafted from sugarcane juice using a Creole column still and aged five years. With an ABV of 54.6%, this limited release of 357 bottles boasts a deeply vegetal aroma complimented by dried and tropical fruit notes. On the palate, it reveals a sweet beginning, evolving into peppery, vanilla, and honey nuances. Enthusiasts note the rum’s elegance and potential, yet critique its pricing. It exemplifies the traditional Neisson style, though some suggest more competitive options exist.

Round Neisson with a fairly typical profile. Beautiful nougat sweetness, some wood, plus some youthful freshness. Pleasant and elegant.
Good rum. It stops there. I found it young, lively, vegetal. Basically it's good, there's the potential to become a great rum but today it's just good. At around 200€ a keel, I'd definitely go for an XO, because it's expensive for what it is...
Je ne note ici que le jus, et sans regarder le prix. Pour moi c’est un vieux très rond avec quelques fruits et notamment un petit noyau de cerise, mais qu’à l’aveugle je ne donnerai pas à plus de 70€ la bouteille. À 200€ ça n’a aucun sens !
