How does this rum taste?
The "Demerara New Vibrations" from Guyana's Enmore distillery is an intriguing rum, distilled in 1988 and aged for 34 years. Bottled by Silver Seal at an ABV of 47.9%, it showcases a complex aroma of wood, prunes, leather, and allspice. While noted for its rich fruity and woody flavor profile, users express mixed opinions on its depth and balance, with some finding the wood influence overwhelming. Despite this, the rum remains an attractive choice for those interested in aged molasses-based rums. This review summarizes user feedback and tasting notes sourced from RumX, a popular platform for rum enthusiasts.

I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 24,000 bottlings, 250,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 46,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.
A rum tasted at the WLP. A splendid nose of prune, wood and light leather. The palate is rather (too) tight and tannic, but with lovely stewed fruit. A fine finish, a little too woody. A rum that's a little thin and tight in the mouth. I expected much better.
Unfortunately, it seems very thin, at least in view of other Demerara releases of a similar age and from the same vintage. The basic product remains inspiring, but a bit too flat here.
Really tasted on the bottom of a glass, so it's hard to tell, but clearly it's wise. Perhaps even too wise, obviously 34 years old is a mark. The fruit and wood are there, but next to that it's timid, and after a roller coaster of 5 intense rums, here we see a few ageing flaws. It's still very good and ultra affordable, of course.
