How does this rum taste?
RumX tasters call this Samai Flag Series a curious mix of "Fidji fruit exotique" and Worthy Park vibes, with the nose leading on citrus, vegetal, and vanilla, then drifting into floral, woody, and sometimes even slightly medicinal territory. Many highlight an "agrume, vanille, et le bois" trio (Maxime Clr 🇫🇷), while notes of burnt plastic or banana add oddball intrigue. Texture surprises—sometimes mellow, sometimes "more nasty" (DomM), and the cask brings both a pleasing sweetness and a sometimes assertively woody finish. This release keeps folks guessing whether it’s a Jamaican ringer or a singular Cambodian experience.

To Samai
Interesting and of decent quality. Gives me some Fidji vibes with some dirty/plant-y notes on the nose and palate. Quite some sweetness and vanilla notes from the cask. Finish is a bit to woody/bitter to fully satisfy. Interesting profile nevertheless! Edit after some oxidation: evolved nicely, smoothing out the profile. Gives associations to the 2000 WIRD „Rockley“s, yet a bit more nasty. Same verdict: interesting profile!
Yes, schnapps. Perhaps usable as a mixer. Not recommended neat. Smells like a train station bum. Nice label and Lmdw affiliation don't save anything.
Exciting rum from Cambodia! On the nose I first thought of Fiji rum because of the note of burnt plastic and citrus fruits, then there is a quite floral, almost perfumed note. The taste is then almost reminiscent of a younger Clarendon with this blatant menthol, chalk and pencil note, plus tart lime, very astringent and black tea tannins and a fine sweetness reminiscent of caramel with allspice and vanilla. Overall a nice package and my first Cambodian single cask rum!
Exciting profile. It is reminiscent of Fiji and Jamaica (Worthy Park). There is also a pleasant citrus note, which brings a nice freshness. A real surprise and a great rum.
