How does this rum taste?
Most enjoy the bright cane, tropical fruit and floral profile, especially watered down. Critics find the alcohol harsh, structure messy and finish short. Consensus: interesting, but a bit young and pricey.
If you like exploring young agricoles like ESB-style or lightly aged cane rums, this is a fun, intense snapshot of Papa Rouyo—just be ready to add water and accept some rough edges.
Beginners, those sensitive to high ABV or looking for a smooth, long-aged sipper with great value; anyone who dislikes slightly wild, vegetal or fermenty notes.

More floral and balanced than Vibrasyon.
Notes taken at Rhum Fest 2024, Quick notes and a bit heavy palate, sorry :) Here we have: a true "classic" ESB with cane, a little fruit, especially orange and apricot? It's not easy as we move into the living room, and I'm less sharp, but I really enjoyed it. Very surprised by the current rating of this keel! Maybe the finish is a bit short.
A young rum from the Papa Rouyo distillery (the island's most recent to date), Velier has followed up its previous edition to find a mix between the aromas of unaged rum and the influence of aging on them. The result is a blend of slightly sweet vesuvial aromas, herbal and vegetal notes that rub shoulders with spices and young oak, supported by exotic fruits and a hint of caramel. A profile at the crossroads, without being revolutionary. The attack on the palate is even stranger: cane serves as an introduction before a battle between floral and vegetal flavors, exotic fruit, spicy wood and medicinal, fermented scents. Although the profile is varied, the whole is a bit all over the place and lacks homogeneity. The alcohol could be better integrated. The finish, of decent length, gives a little freshness at first, before letting the spices take over. A touch of caramelized roundness completes the picture. The desire to showcase a rum at its various stages of evolution is understandable, but this version will be neither the most memorable, nor the least expensive, alas.
