Romero & Sons FRC Ecuador (Kirsch Whisky) 1973
Most praise its chocolate‑caramel sweetness, dense body and well‑integrated alcohol; critics find it flat, over‑aged or oddly oxidized. Consensus: an interesting, sweet, woody sipper, not a must‑have legend.
Curious explorers of rare, very old Latin-style rums who enjoy sweet, chocolate‑caramel and woody profiles at cask strength and value uniqueness and age statement over explosiveness.

How does this rum taste?
Old, sweet, woody – interesting but polarizing
If you like older Panamanian or Latin-style single casks with chocolatey, woody sweetness, this is an interesting step up in age—just don’t expect a game‑changing 48‑year powerhouse.
Beginners, funk hunters, and value-focused buyers expecting intense complexity, bright fruit or clear 50‑year depth; also anyone sensitive to oxidation or musty wood notes.

A nice surprise, a pleasant drink, alcohol well integrated. Top
Eventuell das falsche Wort, aber noch der “angenehmste” der Reihe. Wer immer die Idee für diese Reihe hatte, sollte seinen Job abgeben.
Here is the obviously better of the 4 barrels bottled. 50 yo or only partially, no matter. Something special these are in any case. Nose: pleasantly strong again, but still heavy and round. Fruitier than cask #22, with dried apricot added to the dark, sweetly inlaid cherry. Behind that, lots of caramel with vanilla and sweet nougat. Pipe tobacco and cherry wood come in as well as tonka bean and molasses. Liked. 8,5 Palate: oh, noticeably sweeter than #22. Brown, burnt caramel with vanilla. Sweet, slightly licoricey treacle, tonka bean and pecan. Pickled cherry and soft prune. But also flavored pipe tobacco and cherry wood. Very dense and again chocolaty. 8.4 Overall, an old rum with dense body. Chocolatey-sweet. Almost too sweet on the palate for me.
Franconian Tasting Gang If only with cola and ice. Edit: Unfortunately I have to retract this statement. I think it's pretty much the only rum and coke I've ever thrown away because I couldn't get it down.
