How does this rum taste?
- Unique woody profile
- Distinct ester notes
- Great for cocktails
Franky's Pineapple Rum, produced by MHOBA in South Africa, offers a unique experience with its pot distilled profile from sugar cane juice. With a distinct pineapple aroma, hints of smokiness and esters enhance its character. On the palate, users identify flavors of woody undertones along with toasted and fruity notes, although pineapple does not dominate the taste as expected. Opinions vary widely, with some finding it reminiscent of higher ester Jamaican rums, while others note it as too woody or ether-like. Its 43% ABV provides a balanced punch, making it suitable for cocktails or contemplative sipping. This rum seems to polarize, appreciated for its bold profile but critiqued for lacking pineapple forwardness.

"The wacky Easter calendar day 5 "Oh man " was my first thought when I came into contact with this drop... The nose is not really pleasing Cheap glue mixed with green very green pineapple (could also be green banana 🤣) Uhu Sekundenbab describes it best. On the palate ... briefly shaken some sweetness, some wood ... and ester but not the delicious ester ... a little fruit via banana and pineapple (very little) Not getting warm with it...."

"So this is not your classical pineapple- or spiced rum. The story I've heard the pineapple is added BEFORE the distilling. So that explains its not too pinapple-y. Mhoba is pretty funky and thus a bit weird. Very jamaicany but sugarcane based. Not for everyone I guess. Review comes later. Tasted this a few years ago. Just got a whole bottle to share with friends. Retaste: all of the above. Weirdly smoky too. Does not taste like a spice or infused rum. It's the real deal. Greenish. Red peppers. It's weird but I like it. Pretty unique stuff."
