"Overall a great Agricole that’s well balanced and very tasty with an extremely long finish. This rum from the Carrere Distillery in Guadeloupe is distilled in 2021 from yellow and red cane. After 18-Months in ex-rye casks and Tennessee whiskey 1st fillI casks it was bottled in 12000 bottles at ABV 60%. It’s named after the ZENGA rooster, head of the barnyards in the West Indies."
"Canne rouge & Canne Jaune mixed and 18 months in ex Bourbon & ex rye whisky casks... Nice! Incredibly beautiful nose of red Williams pear, baked apple, honey and bourbon. On the palate, you realize that the bourbon & rye whiskey casks used here are quite blatant, bringing a great spiciness to the rhum and underlining the red and yellow fruits of the 2 sugar cane varieties, but also almost dominating them. The finish is almost reminiscent of baked apple 😀 It won't be easy to come up with an agricole here in a blind tasting... But the fact that it's so smooth at 60% after only 18 months is remarkable. For me, it's definitely one of the best very young agricole rhums I've drunk to date and an exceptional blend of 2 rarer sugar cane varieties. I find it very successful and even better than its predecessor, zenga vieux. The price is of course a different matter and a little expensive for such a young rhum... Nevertheless, a great bottling!"
