Cane Rum Bottling Company Caroni Single Cask Rum 1998

Overall an extremely round, smooth and well balanced Caroni without losing some of the more dirty notes. Tasted this at a special tasting at Rum Cane Society (CRS) in Stockholm, which is the rum bar in Europe with most different rum bottlings. The Cane Bottling Co. is a Swedish IB founded and owned by Lars Renbjer and Niklas Blomquist, the latter co-owner of CRS. The rum is a 25yo column distilled rum from the Caroni distillery. It’s Continental aged first for 8 years in former bourbon casks and thereafter in old rum casks for the rest of the time.

Quite a big surprise. The aroma is rather less pronounced, but it does not deny the technical notes of the caroni. On the palate, it's classic grandpa's workshop with tar and rubber. Hints of wood and leather and a swirly tongue at higher abv. A round and complex rum.

My first Caroni and I am not dissapointed. I understand what all the fuzz is about 👍. Very rich Rhum in my book, will search for more Caroni

Spicy Caroni... Alcohol could be better integrated. Red fruits, plum some mint. Leather and wood ... looks pleasing and harmonious. Finish then slightly bitter.

Ein ausgesprochen sanfter und weicher Caroni. Im Abgang leichte Schärfe und Süße bemerkbar. Die typischen Caroni Noten kommen gut durch. es gibt deutlich bessere Caroni Vertreter, aber dieser gefällt mir nach und nach immer besser.

Smooth 1998 Caroni in which all the typical components come into their own. It still lacks some complexity for an absolute top rating and the alcohol is a little too present at the end. Nevertheless very tasty :)

Not a typical Caroni profile. Alcohol could have been better integrated.

Nose is comparatively flat with not to much going on. Nice and enjoyable on the plate. Sweetness forwards with not much of your classic Caroni notes.

Gentle Caroni that is fun to drink. The alcohol is a little too present for a top rating. Nevertheless, a well-rounded and balanced Caroni experience.

Not a typical Caroni, I miss the typical aromas. I find the nose very round, spicy with dried fruit. A surprising sweetness on the palate that quickly turns bitter. All quite dark notes. The finish is quite short.

... Caroni je destilerie z Trinidadu, produkujici v dobe sve nejvetsi slavy rum, ktery se pridaval v pomeru 1:10 do namornickeho blendu. Byl totiz moc vyrazny a divny nez aby byl prijemny na jazyku. V roce 2000 destilerka skoncila s produkci a byla uzavrena. Az v roce 2010 se objevili degustatori, kteri si rum oblibili prave pro jeho specialni chut. A zajem rostl. Caroni patri do kategorie rumu "you need to try before you die". Doporucuji, Caroni je opravdu unikatni rum.

First Caroni. I was expecting to get walloped but this is a lot more approachable than I was expecting. Nose I get faint ripe bananas and floral - almost like a 40% abv Agricole. Charred oak, spice. Mouth I get Leathery, industrial, slightly menthol on the pallet as well as thin and sharp. The menthol is pretty far back there - which I appreciate. After a while I get hubba bubba. Pallet lingers lite with leather, smoke and tobacco - like a scotch.
