How does this rum taste?
- Complex flavor profile
- Well-integrated alcohol
- Tropical fruit aromas
The "Exception" by Famille Ricci is a distinguished rum hailing from Fiji's South Pacific distillery. Distilled in 2001, this 22-year-old spirit was produced from molasses using a pot still, then bottled at cask strength with a 58.2% ABV. Users praise its nose, dominated by tropical fruit, followed by hints of tea and mineral notes. The palate reveals a complex blend of flavors—tropical fruit and tea, an underlying peppery spice, and a gentle hint of caramelized sweetness. Despite its robust flavor profile, it is well-balanced, with an integrated alcohol presence noted by many. Surprisingly, the rum's spice and smoke linger, delivering a noteworthy finish.

To South Pacific
"Rum Friendly Club Advent Calendar, Day 19. A fruity, heavy and spicy nose. Banana and mango, dried fruit, esters, oak, varnish and Christmas spices. The palate is lively, with spices, cedar wood and dried fruit. The finish is long and balanced, but lacks complexity. A fine rum, but I'm not particularly enthusiastic about it."
"Beautiful release, which on the one hand shows the long years in the barrel on the palate, but on the other hand does not lack freshness. Pleasant fruit aromas meet barrel notes, tea and spices. A convincing Fiji from 2001."
