How does this rum taste?
The Rhum Supérieur Grand Arôme 1970s from Martinique is a remarkable expression of old-world craftsmanship. With an ABV of 54%, this rum is celebrated for its intense aroma profile, featuring clove, dried dates, and woody notes. Tasting reveals honey, cinnamon, and prunes, offering a complex and balanced palate. Users appreciate its harmonious integration of alcohol, the long, warm finish, and its unique blend of spices, fruits, and woody elements. Though some find it slightly earthy or obscure, the overall complexity and refined character make it a sought-after collector's piece. Ideal for rum enthusiasts seeking depth and history in a glass, this vintage rum is both a nostalgic journey and an aromatic delight.

RumX Rarities jour 9.
Tasted an old St. Gilles, which is very similar to this one, especially on the nose. However, this one is much denser with more character but above all complexity. I like it very much.
A Grand Arôme de Martinique rum from a bygone age, distinguished by its fine aromas. The nose is elegant and old-fashioned, evoking rancio, aromatic herbs, old leather, spices, cocoa wood and red, dried and exotic fruits. You can tell that time has taken its toll. On the palate, the rum is elegant, refined and delicate, but with a certain liveliness that suits it perfectly. A balance between finesse and power is achieved, with dried fruit (prune), herbaceous and floral notes contrasting with old leather, spices and honeyed notes of nougat, marshmallow and caramel. The alchemy between the flavors is very good. The alcohol is very well integrated. The finish is long and dry, returning to more bitter notes, rancio and herbal aromas. Spice and woodiness line the palate with cocoa, dried fruit, caramel and nougat. A particularly well-preserved and aromatic piece of history, to be savored at its best.
the #9 from the Rarities calendar. On the nose there are red fruits with a slightly sour touch, plus beet or earthy notes, herbal candy and old barrel...on the palate tobacco, nutmeg, herbs and somehow surprisingly sweet. A wacky piece that I really enjoy!
