How does this rum taste?
RumX members love this Port Mourant UPM for its rare balance: big Demerara power with alcohol beautifully integrated. Expect caramel and oak over tropical fruit and vanilla, a creamy, oily mouthfeel, and a long, warming finish. Several reviewers note smoky, pruny depths and spice that unfold with time in the glass. With 48 community reviews and rising trust, it’s a limited release worth savoring as it opens in the glass.

12.04.2014 Lanternen Kolding Nice relaxing evening with colleagues at this old bar, which is no more. Notes Dark in colour. Nose Wood, roasted, tar, workshop, coffee, orange, cinnamon, light leather, faint mint. Palate Oily, intense, natural sweetness, balanced, spicy, dried fruit, plum, anise, tannins. Finish Very long and warm, wood, tannins, balanced, medium dry, raisin.
To cut a long story short, the wife also said "it's good, you can buy a bottle"... If it wasn't so expensive, I'd love to... What a grenade, I'm glad I pulled myself together and gave it the time in the glass, so it could unfold perfectly and I could enjoy its full potential.
A superb rum, incredibly balanced and complex on the nose. The profile is both delicate and intense, something we're not used to from Port Mourant. The varnished wood and the floral and herbaceous notes typical of the alembic are refined, but the sweet heaviness of Demerara and the fruity notes are more pronounced than usual. A harmonious, intense and deep profile. The attack on the palate is exquisite, halfway between Port Mourant and Diamond, with heavy notes of burnt sugar and caramel, powerful yet elegant oak, spices abounding alongside cocoa, tobacco, nuts and dried, exotic fruits. The alcohol is perfectly integrated, just sumptuous. The finish has an almost eternal sweetness, reminiscent of some Foursquare wines, with caramelized notes, coconut, cocoa and spices. There's an almost buttery quality that makes for a truly ecstatic finish. The fruitiness and woodiness are also on point. An extraordinary Port Mourant, delicious, powerful and complex, a real gem.
Awesome, cool that we were allowed to taste this rum in the Rum X Rarities Tasting. And what a difference to the equally long aged, continental Port Mourant of the same vintage. The typical markers (salt, anise) almost sink into the perfect toasty caramel sweet tropical wood ripeness here with nice stickiness, nuts, cocoa and fruit. Would not have recognized blind as PM ... My favorite PM so far ❤️
