How does this rum taste?
Chamarel VSOP leans into wood, vanilla, and grape notes, with many RumX tasters mentioning its “woody” and “grape” profile. The nose is sometimes compared to eaux de vie or even peach brandy by users like Decky Hicks Doughty. Vincent D notes, “the wood is dominant and then a bitterness with acidity takes over.” Some find it smooth and easy-drinking, while others, like N’ours, wish for more “puissance.” Sweeter, vegetal tones make appearances, but the overall impression is restrained and light-bodied.

It’s too little of everything to really catch me. Weak aromas of fruit, wood, vanilla, butterscotch and herbs. At the palate the aromas is there as flavors with an ok balance between dryness and sweetness.
The nose is initially woody. Vanilla too. Not crazy. On the palate, wood dominates and then a bitterness mixed with acidity takes over. Grape or cognac barrel, I think. Unfortunately, it doesn't work very well. Very different from the XO, which I rather liked. And clearly a step below.
Gar nicht so mein Ding, da für das Alter noch viel zu unausgewogen und ruppig. Der Alkohol ist dominant, das ganze Destillat schmeckt medizinisch und unfertig.
