How does this rum taste?
RumX members found this 80.5% DOK Hampden a wild ride with dominating esters, young wood and plenty of tropical fruit—especially pineapple, with an undercurrent that some call marzipan and allspice. Several highlight the remarkably well-integrated alcohol considering its punch, like Johannes: "Unglaublich, dass man den DOK mit 80% überhaupt trinken kann." For others, it's a sensory overload that promises, in Michal S's words, a "klasický profil - tropické ovoce, estery... v puse pěkně zahřeje." The finish leans short and woody, with a touch of “côté sale” (a slightly dirty edge), making it a talking point for anyone up for bold spirits.

An explosive nose due to the 80.5%, esters are first. But there's also young wood, pineapple and other tropical fruits, and a slightly dirty side. The palate is violent, but the alcohol, though very present, does not dominate. The fruit is there, along with a little wood. The finish is short and dominated by wood and dirt. Interesting for its excessive ABV on paper but tolerable in real life, and its evolutivity on the palate.
OMG - 80,6% with so high esthers is deadly combination. You cannot breathe for a while. Unglaublich, dass man den DOK mit 80% überhaupt trinken kann. Der Alkohol ist erstaunlich gut eingebunden!
