The Whisky Jury Mount Gay The Many Faces Rum (Spirits Project) 2002
Highly praised as one of the better modern Mount Gays: fruity, pastry-like, well‑balanced and very drinkable cask strength with nice mineral/menthol twists and well‑handled oak.
Barbados fans and bourbon/cognac drinkers who enjoy pastry-like coconut, vanilla and dried fruit notes in a well-balanced, medium-strength cask bottling with a touch of minerality.

How does The Whisky Jury Mount Gay The Many Faces Rum (Spirits Project) 2002 taste?
Relaxed but characterful Mount Gay classic
If you enjoy Foursquare or classic Barbados but want to understand Mount Gay’s older side, this gives you a clear, pastry‑fruity profile with extra mineral interest without punishing heat.
Drinkers chasing extreme funk or heavy experimentation, and value‑focused buyers who might find a limited 20‑year indie Mount Gay too expensive for its relatively classic profile.

Tasted at Liquid Leuven ‘23, so my review remains rather concise. A captivating nose which opens sweet and spicy before becoming atypically medicinal. Starts with a combination of caramel-dipped coconut chunks and cask spices. Perhaps even some blueberries. Then quickly cool and musty with resin, licorice and orange gratings. After a while in the glass it evolves towards a mineral aroma of rock-sprawled river, seabreeze and… clingwrap. Incredible evolution. In the mouth clearly less oily, less medicinal, and steered back into regular MG profile. The taste is sweet and woody, with caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, and coconut husks. Hints of balsamic. Malt dominant with a tad of coffee and roasted nuts. A little bit of camphor and minerality survives onto the palate, but much less than wished for. The finish is rather short and very sweet with brown sugar. A fabulous aroma that I could smell for ages, but unfortunately did not entirely make it onto the palate.
