"Color: Mahogany Immediately after opening the bottle Odor: Smells surprisingly strong, alcoholic and spicy immediately after opening. Slightly fruity with raisins as well as wood, sherry and cognac. Taste: Tingles alcoholically in the mouth. Not very harmonious/round when swallowed. Sweet like honey with some toffee and also woody and spicy peppery. The aromas are not very intense. The alcoholic imbalance predominates. Somewhat surprising for an 18-year-old. Finish: Medium length Woody, dry and slightly bitter Conclusion: A disappointment ... the Guajiro Anejo Machete tasted much better in direct comparison. After the opened bottle had stood for several days: Smell: Less alcoholic and pungent. Taste: The alcoholic is now what you would expect at 40%. Soft and sweet after honey and raisins, sherry and cognac, toffee and caramel. Also old wood and pleasantly slightly spicy and peppery. Pleasant to drink and delicious. Finish: Medium length Sweet with sherry and cognac, pleasantly spicy and woody. Still pleasant and tasty in the aftertaste. Conclusion: I paid just €27 for the bottle in Tenerife in May 2023. For an 18-year-old!!! It's a great rum for that, provided you don't drink it immediately after opening but wait a few days. Many people here in Tenerife have told me that the 12-year-old is better. I'm not so sure about that and recommend giving the 18-year-old a chance. For the price, you can't go far wrong."
