How does this rum taste?
Aged for 19 years at the Savanna distillery in Reunion, 'The Very Rare Cask (Traditional C20)' offers an intense woody and spicy aroma with hints of fruit and vanilla. On the palate, this rum is robustly woody with spice and bitter notes, while some drinkers find astringency in the finish. It carries the complex characteristics of dried fruit, coffee, and caramel, evoking experiences reminiscent of older rums from regions like Barbados. Despite its high 59% ABV, the alcohol is well-integrated, though some find it slightly overpowering. This limited release of 287 bottles excels in delivering depth and complexity, making it a coveted choice among enthusiasts of matured rums, though its availability and price are notable concerns.

This is a very balanced and pleasant savanna. Delicate fruit aromas on the nose, pronounced caramel, vanilla, barrel and spice aromas on the palate. Red fruits are also subtly recognizable. Medium length with red dried fruits in combination with cask and coffee. I quite like it...something for the evening.
Best Savanna so far for me. The 19 years great implemented, no stupid barrel finish. Wonderfully balanced and still corners and edges. Super rum, unfortunately very rare and expensive.
Tasted against RX16261. Both very good in their own way, that is: they are quite different, but I like (today) both equally well. While the 19-year-old Traditionnel seems really round, mature and smooth, the young HERR breaks out like a wild foal in several directions, first sweetish-perfumed, then smoky, finally tart-fruity with a tendency to gooseberries. Against the HERR Japan Tribute 1 (RX219), the HERR Japan Tribute 3 is a small light, but shines pleasantly independent due to its wild character with recognition effect. The Traditionnel can score with very well integrated alcohol, the 59% you do not notice at all. Great art!
