#8 Club of Enjoyment Xmas-Calendar. Nose: young wood, lemon peel, woody, spicy, alcoholic Mouth: sweet, Alcoholic, pecan, chamomille, brandy, bitter, umami Finish: Medium long, dry, agricole, hay, earthy, chamomille Prediction: Not familiar with this kind of rum… just a hint of agricole in the finish, young aging, around 50%. Very strange, umami feeling in mouth with some earthy, floral and lovely agricole notes in the finish.
Tasted at Sönke's and surprised by the depth of such a young rum from Ecuador. I was kind enough to cadge a small sample. Nose: interesting and not so easy to decipher. For me, it initially has something of kitchen roll, cardboard and young, still fresh branches. Slightly sweetish, but with green apple it is more on the herbal side. Dried camomile with moss and sweet herbs. Some cocoa powder at the back. 7,7 Palate: also different, intense and interesting. Initially sweet and nutty, tonka bean and pecan. Then cocoa and slightly chocolatey or nougat. There's also some lovage before chamomile, herbs and heart take over. I actually find geranium at the end. I've never had anything like this before and am pleasantly surprised. 8,1
Tried it for the 2nd time tonight and I adjust it 0.2 points upwards. Despite its young age, I find it relatively complex and intense with a long finish. Aromas of apple and lemon peel. Spicy, earthy and vegetal notes. The alcohol that reaches my nose reminds me of a mixture of white wine and Agricole. On the palate, it's mainly Agricole, milk chocolate, spicy, nutty and slightly sweet. The long finish is dominated by planty notes of hay. Beautiful rum with a good price-performance ratio.
I am positively surprised. Beautiful, full-bodied, spicy aromas. I would have blindly guessed a wine cask finish. Very exciting pot still rum!
