Caroni tasting

Nase: Haselnuss, leicht Zitrusfrucht, etwas Blumig, leicht Gummi eines aufgeblasenen Ballon, ganz leicht Rauch/Aschig, schön komplex und angenehm Gaumen: Der Gummi kommt in den Vordergrund, öliger Universalschlüssel, Cashewnüsse, Grapefruit, sehr angenehm zum trinken, dr öliger Universalschlüssel bleibt ewig auf der Zunge und vorallem im Gaumen. Leider Geil.

Tasted at the WLP in 2023 and a sample from Jakob (thanks!). A classic 1996 nose with lots of depth, the machine shop notes balanced with very expressive fruit. Slightly less pleasant aromas of smoky oak and overripe mango. Wow! A super-expressive palate. Everything is in place and the evolution on the palate is smooth, complex and satisfying. A loooong finish! With woody and slightly smoky notes, discreet until now. A very fine, assertive rum, elegant and harmonious. The woodiness/smokiness is very present when the glass is empty, but all the aromas are equally present.

A sublime Caroni that totally eclipses the first three releases in the Paradise range. We're clearly in another dimension, with a very expressive and diverse aromatic palette, ranging from hydrocarbons to tropical fruit notes, hot caramel, roasted oak, spices, leather, nuts and smoky notes. A real olfactory delight. On the palate, tropical fruits, notably mango and papaya, mingle perfectly with tar and rubber for a tasty, expressive and elegant whole. Caramel, oak, spices and empyreumatic notes (toasted, smoky) add opulence and body to a rich, complex rum. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. The finish is almost eternal, with the same contrast of greedy fruitiness on the one hand, and dark, empyreumatic notes on the other, swirling between spices, leather, hydrocarbons, oak, smoky and medicinal aromas. A Caroni in all its splendor, complete, exuberant and refined, a true pleasure that unfortunately is not eternal, and comes at a price too.

Elegant and complex nose with gum and bacon notes. On the palate an excellent overall package.

Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023 / Whisky Live 2023 / Bottle Opening 2024: Absolutely impressive cask from the Trinidad stock from 1996. Exquisite blend of sweetness, the typical dirty Caroni markers and spice. The consistently high level of the 1996 Velier Caronis is almost unbelievable!

a very balanced, close to perfectly balanced rum which might be its disadvantage. Not strong on any of the categories on the palate. There are dried fruits, apples, a nice freshness and coconut on the nose. Orange peel on palate and finish. Compared to my recent benchmark, the 1996/1999 Diamond less complex and less depth, so less points.

Could only try a sip from cigares, but really great Caroni! Powerful and well integrated. Fruity with plenty of industrial notes. Wonderful 🤩

Einer meiner ersten Caronis, aber ich kann voll und ganz nachvollziehen warum dieser Rum so viele Leute in seinen Bann zieht. Das ist schon etwas speziell, aber auf eine gute Art und Weise. Diese Aromenvielfalt findet man sonst wohl kaum irgendwo in diesem Ausmaß. Das ist wirklich ein äußerst leckerer Rum.
