Bristol Caroni VSOC 2003
Most enjoy its gentle Caroni nose, smoky-tarry notes and drinkability. Critics find it too diluted, thin and not representative of full-power Caroni. Consensus: pleasant, simple, beginner-friendly Caroni.
Curious rum drinkers who want a soft, smoky-tarry introduction to Caroni without high ABV or overwhelming intensity; also good for relaxed evenings when you don’t want a heavy hitter.

How does this rum taste?
Gentle, watered‑down Caroni starter
If you’re Caroni-curious but wary of cask strength bruisers, this gives you the tarry, smoky signature in a very relaxed 40% format—just know it’s dialed way down.
Caroni fans chasing full-on power and funk, or enthusiasts who dislike thin, low-ABV mouthfeel and expect a textbook representation of the distillery’s intensity.

Tasting a few Caronis from Bristol. The only Caroni from 2003 had to be tasted. The nose is totally Caroni, with tar, caramel and wood, but also lime and a clear vegetal side. All in all, a fine nose. The palate is acqueous, marked by dilution. Fruit, machine shop and vegetal aromas need to be sought out. The length is average and clearly too short for a Caroni. A fine rum, with plenty of drinkability, but the dilution has made it far too thin for my taste. A pity for the only example from the 2003 vintage. Tasted again and the high dilution is clearly its weak point.
Auto-translatedTasted by a friend. Very good, I love Caroni! Didn't feel the sherry barrel aging. Too light.
Auto-translatedThis is a great example of why rum should not be watered down. Most of the profile is a mere ghost of what it could have been.
Top Einsteiger Caroni mit bestem PLV. Mit mehr % wäre das ein hammer Rum.
