How does this rum taste?
- Schöne, angenehme Nase
- complex, wood, light roasted
- l’alcool (41,5°) est parfaitement dosé
Rhum J.M 2006 comes across as a balanced interplay of wood, vanilla, and dried fruit, mingling with layers of leather, tobacco, and subtle spices. Many RumX members mention "süsse, dunkle Frucht wie Zwetschgen, Datteln, Brombeere" (@Gregor) alongside lighter touches of cherry and earthy notes. The palate leans into a "complex, wood, light roasted" profile with gentle tobacco and a soft coffee echo, as @Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰 describes. Despite its lower ABV, most find the aromas round and elegant, touching on citrus and confit fruits, with a medium to long, woody-spice finish.

"The 2006 vintage in a leather label from JM, whose reputation is well established. This cuvée perfectly represents the spirit of the house, with an attractive olfactory duel between dried, tropical and candied fruits on one side, wood, sweet spices, cocoa, nuts and toasted notes on the other, with sugarcane in between. An intensely aromatic profile, round and elegant on the nose. On the palate, the rum is assertive despite its relatively low alcohol content (41.5%). Wood, spices such as cinnamon and pepper, cocoa, nuts and toasted notes enhance a palate marked by complexity and sweetness. Exotic fruit, tobacco and sugarcane notes round off this ruthlessly well-executed profile. A round, dry and elegant rum. The long finish returns to more agricultural, floral and vegetal flavors, with strong spices (aniseed), wood and dried fruit. Compared with the 2003 and 2004 vintages, this JM is perhaps a little more gourmand but less diversified. Nonetheless, it remains a very fine vintage that will delight fans of the distillery."
"#5096 Sunday - The last shots before our partners are picking us up 😊 24.01.2025 - 26.01.2025 A nice weekend in my sisters summerhouse with old friends and colleagues tasting a lot of rums. I can only recommend like we did, no phones allowed and then only music in the background 😊 Colour Dark to very dark. Nose Wood, light roasted, fruits, spice, faint chocolate, faint coffee, light earthy, light cherry. Palate Round, balanced, complex, wood, light roasted, light citrus, light cherry, cinnamon, light tobacco, faint coffee. Finish Medium to long, wood, roasted, dried fruit, faint chocolate, light tobacco. Empty glass Chocolate, light vanilla, light coffee, faint nutts."
"Edit : plus je le goute, plus je l'apprécie. L'oxydation lui fait vraiment du bien. Le nez est plutôt sur les fruits avec une certaine fraîcheur. La bouche est différente : beaucoup plus sombre, les quelques fruits sont devenus confiture d'orange. Les notes boisées et torréfiées dominent. La texture est huileuse. Comme souvent sur cette gamme chez J.M, la présence et la longueur en bouche est toujours aussi remarquable pour un rhum avec à peine plus de 40°."
"Beautiful, pleasant nose. Lots of sweet, dark fruit like plums, dates, blackberry some honey but also leather and some hazelnut / tree nut. On the palate sweet candied cherries, very light ginger. Leather, coffee bean and tobacco replaced by chocolate truffles. Very nice flavors, could be a bit more intense, so for me just under nine."
