"Tasted quickly on the Rhumfest. To try again but not conquered. The 7 years old remains for me the most balanced of the range. We would have to compare them at the same time to get a better idea."
"A mid-range rum in the permanent range, this 9-year-old Saint James is distinguished by a nose of great sweetness, carrying sweet spices, elegant wood, dried fruit and sugarcane. Nuts and toasty notes follow, in keeping with the distillery's tradition. The palate is characterized by earthiness and herbaceousness, tobacco notes, a certain bitterness and the influence of oak from cognac casks. The woody, spicy character is also very pronounced. The profile is dry, approachable, but not revolutionary. The finish, a little short for the profile, allows empyreumatic and vegetal flavors to swirl around, the latter gradually taking the ascendancy throughout the tasting. Although this is a perfectly decent rum, it doesn't add much between the 7- and 12-year-old cuvées, which mark a real step up in the distillery's range."
""Too bad it doesn't hold in the mouth, but nice product. In summary, my tasting notes: Nose: Vanilla In the mouth: Dried fruit, Prunes Finish: Peppery". I'd still recommend it over a VSOP, for example, because it's better."
"Un rhum milieu de gamme chez saint James. Il a une jolie odeur boisé, en bouche ces arômes boisés et légèrement fumés se révèlent. Je n'ai pas fait la comparaison avec les autres vieillissement mais c'est est un rhum correct avec un rapport qualité prix plutôt bon."
