How does this rum taste?
The Royal Cane Cask Company's St. Lucia 2000 John Dore rum is a 22-year aged, cask strength delight from Saint Lucia Distillers. Bottled by Infinity Spirits, it features a complex profile distilled from molasses using a John Dore Pot Still. With prominent woody, herbal, and smoky aromas, this rum offers flavors of oak, tobacco, and a hint of bitter orange peel. While appreciated for its unique fruity notes, some find its profile overly dominated by wood and lacking robustness given its age. The warm finish and natural sweetness are highlighted positively among users, yet its relatively low cask strength ABV puzzles enthusiasts. RumX users provide an insightful range of opinions on this vintage offering.

The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.
Very inviting nose, smells like an old rum. But falls off quite a bit on the palate as a limp, woody distillate. I'm not at all familiar with the extremely expressive John Dore and I don't particularly like it. A below-average representative from Saint Lucia.
#4126 Despite the ABV being below 50 it still has a nice warm and spicy touch to it. Lightly fruity with some nice roasted wood as well as a light smoky note. There is a nice natural sweetness to it. Draws nice fast moving curtains in the glass. The empty glass has some chocolate and spices.
Cross-tasting with seven bottlings from Royal Cane. Promising nose, somewhat one-dimensional on the palate, slightly too woody on the finish. Overall, none of the bottlings convinced me.
Exciting! I know few continental matured Lucias. The character is typical, but very tame, or too tame, due to the dilution. Fruit and honey tend to dominate here.
