How does this rum taste?
Études New Bacolet (Upper Combe) from the Renegade distillery in Grenada is a unique rum, distilled in 2021 from sugarcane juice using pot stills, and matured for 1 year and 7 months in a mix of American and French oak casks. With an alcohol content of 55%, this limited edition of 6,000 bottles offers a nose of sugarcane, fruit, and vegetal notes accented by raisins and green apple. The taste mirrors these aromas with added bitterness and hints of plum. While some find it complex and rewarding, others note its strong alcohol presence and desire richer integration. Ideal for those intrigued by new-age agricoles and terroir influence.

Very different from the "Pearls". Less weird and maybe less exciting for some. Still very nice. More of a Spanish style ron combined with vegetal Agricole rhum. More American Oak in the base.
Tasted this interesting cane juice/Pot Still rum at Sweden Rumfest 2023. The Etudes is the second step in the Single Farm Origin development. The first step was totally unaged Pre Cask rum from different areas in Grenada. This is the distillate released 2021 as Pre Cask New Bacolet now aged for 18 months in first fill American Oak Casks and Premium French Oak Casks.
I just like this a lot, after a long time something surprised me so much, I would compare it to an old Sajous! And the price! It's free!
#5113 15.02.2025 Running a few samples at home. Nose Light wood, faint smoke, fruits, cinnamon, light dried fruit, light mango, sugarcane. Palate Fresh, light wood, faint roasted, light mango, sugarcane, oily, lightly sweet, light prunes, light Agricole. Finish Medium to long, fresh, light wood, fruits, light citrus, faint grass, spice, light prunes. Empty glass Vanilla, faint caramel, light grass, light apricot. Needs to rest for a while for it to settle properly or add a few drops of water. This is not a rum for everyone but could be a starter into the Agricole world.
