Mezan Caroni Trinidad 1996

A light, delicate Caroni... a little too light, in fact.

Tasted at the Catawiki stand at the Village in Nuremberg. For the price at the stand, something you can try, but unfortunately really only a sniff of the potential of the 1996 vintage. A lot of what you would expect from a rum, but - given the dilution - of course not what you would expect from a Caroni. But still a good rum.

Un sample pris au German Rum Festival 2024. Un beau nez, ample avec des fruits tropicaux, du boisé léger et des notes gourmandes pâtissières. L’atelier mécanique est en arrière-plan. La bouche est acqueuse, diluée avec presque pas de saveurs. Je peine à repérer les marqueurs Caroni. La finale est courte avec de légères notes de pâtisseries. Pas du tout un mauvais rhum, plutôt facile à boire. Mais en aucune façon à la hauteur de ce que’on peut attendre d’un Caroni 1996.

Definitely the best Mezan I've had in my glass so far. Despite only 40%, it is still complex and rich in aromas. Much fruitier in the mouth than on the nose, but more spicy-fruity and a little woody than sweet.

Zwischen den verkosteten Caronis mit Abstand der schwächste. Sehr leicht und viel zu wässrig. Da fehlt die Power und Schwere die man von vielen anderen Caronis gewöhnt ist. Zum Einstieg allerdings sicher in Ordnung.

This is a cheap Caroni and a brilliant example that you get what you pay for. All the typical Caroni notes of rubber and tar are missing. This is not a bad rum, but in my mind not a Caroni. The nose is thin with light wood, vanilla and some nuts. The is a light roasted note with dried fruit and a faint earthy note. The palate is diluted/thin withe lightly roasted wood, dried fruit, vanilla and a hint of cocoa. Tha finish is medium with light roasted wood, vanilla and raisins. Price to quality is pretty good but it's not a Caroni :-)

Leider sehr nichtssagend. In der Nase noch Caroni, am Gaumen dann sehr gefällig, hintenraus leider wässrig und nichts. Schmeckt nach Cola-Rum.

Un beau nez pour ce rhum pour commencer et ensuite la suite est nettement moins attractive. On sent bien le fameux nez de Caroni, mais en bouche c’est pas terrible. La bouche est simple et pas complexe

... Caroni je destilerie z Trinidadu, produkujici v dobe sve nejvetsi slavy rum, ktery se pridaval v pomeru 1:10 do namornickeho blendu. Byl totiz moc vyrazny a divny nez aby byl prijemny na jazyku. V roce 2000 destilerka skoncila s produkci a byla uzavrena. Az v roce 2010 se objevili degustatori, kteri si rum oblibili prave pro jeho specialni chut. A zajem rostl. Caroni patri do kategorie rumu "you need to try before you die". Doporucuji, Caroni je opravdu unikatni rum.
