The Bellevue 1998 from Guadeloupe's Damoiseau distillery offers a complex and intriguing profile, appealing to connoisseurs with its molasses base and remarkable aging of 24 years. Bottled at cask strength with an ABV of 51.5%, this limited release by Roots delivers an enticing aroma mixture of woody, spicy notes with faint dark, varnish, and banana hints. On the palate, rich woody, chocolate, and coffee flavors harmonize with complex leather undertones, finishing subtly spicy. I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 24,000 bottlings, 260,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 47,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.

A little nail polish at first, then develops into banana stewed with grapes. Slight woodiness, very mellow but with tannin and a slight astringency that lingers. Luscious, warm and very pleasant.
A discovery! A nose of varnished wood, banana, carambola, cinnamon stick and spices. A frank attack on the palate, but the alcohol never takes over. The aromas develop harmoniously: applesauce/banana, yellow fruit, pink grapefruit with a hint of herbs. A very complex wine. The finish is long, with all the aromas present. A delicious, expressive and complex rum with perfectly integrated alcohol. It's noted as being made from cane juice, but I think it must be made from molasses too. Tasted again and still as good, balance being the key here.
Nicely balanced, has a bit of everything. Great fun! For me, it's a little ahead of The Rum Cask Bellevue 1998, which is slightly more complex, but not by much, so it only gets 1 point more.
Wow, really good! Very similar in direct comparison to the TRC Bellevue. But this one is a bit more complex with more depth.
