Velier Caroni Trilogy Heavy Rum Guyana Stock HTR 1996
Most adore its massive Caroni character, complex wood, tar and menthol freshness. Critics find it a bit too woody and dark versus top 1996s. Consensus: outstanding, but not the very best Caroni.
Seasoned Caroni fans and high-ABV lovers who enjoy dark tar, heavy oak and dirty industrial notes with menthol freshness and a very long, powerful finish.

Great dessert nose. On the palate elegant and perfect wood integration. Great sweetness. Extraordinary Caroni!
14.03.2020 Had a nice afternoon and evening with friends. Notes. Medium dark in colour. Nose: wood, roasted, orange, light smoke, leather. Palate: warm, wood, roasted, oily, chocolate, leather. Finish: long and warm, wood, roasted, chokolade, nutts.
I had the chance to taste it blind, and my money was on an old Demerara. A nose of very, very old tropical Demerara, with lots of wood, but balanced by a fresh, almost minty character. Old tar, used to dampen the boards of sailing boats, and spruce too. The palate follows the nose quite closely, with a slight tartness: old tar and varnished wood. The finish is very long, both powerful and elegant, woody to the point of madness, but balanced thanks to the menthol. There's even a hint of salinity on the finish. A rum that tells a story of sailing ships, fragrant warehouses, old ropes and the sea. Splendid!
