Velier Caroni 36th Release Heavy Trinidad Rum Guyana Stock HTR 1994

Simply wow! Wood, heavy, tar, sweet, palatable. World class for such a very dry rum. It remains my favorite among the heavy Caronis. Lots of tobacco and tea notes. Compared to the other single casks, you can actually still find this rum for three-digit euro amounts, even if that is of course still an absurd price.

A very dark rum in appearance. 23 years of tropical aging. It takes time, a lot of time to reveal itself, but then it becomes an exceptional rum. Still marked by the wood, but with a complexity and depth of flavors never tasted before. The finish is endless and the empty glass the next morning tells a story of its own.In a word: the more oxidized it is, the better it is.The bottom of the bottle is my best rum experience to date.

Neben den wohl typischen dreckigen Teer und Gumminoten drückt ein bitterer Minzton durch, ist sicherlich nicht jedes Geschmack, mir gefällts sehr. Dazu sehr vollmundig und hallt im Abgang unglaublich lange nach. Wirkt auch etwas frischer als andere Caronis.

A wonderful discovery, this grand caroni 😍 Leave it in the glass for 2/3 hours to breathe. I love caroni and this one is very tall 🤩

An all-round enjoyable Caroni exactly to my taste... that's how it has to be for me... if there was a little more fruit (red berries) in it... it would have earned top marks 😋

9,2:On the nose, from the first impression we know a great rum is in front of us, with roasted wood notes like caramel, burnt sugar, leather, spicy vanilla and earthy, minty molasses, as industrial notes are not pungent, actually they are a nice companion to other notes with tar and petrol.The fruits are dried with raisins and tropical with banana. On aeration, real thickness, heaviness of this rum is felt, but is very round and pleasant.It is a bit metallic, medicinal with polish, there is some bicycle tube note, as the fruits present are dried currants and cherries. 9,4:On the palate, the attack is delicious with creamy charred wood notes like caramel, burnt sugar, nuts and spicy vanilla, as the fruits are dried with raisins, apricots and tropical mango. The molasses is minty at first, later dark and earthy with tobacco, black tea and licorice. The industrial notes like tar, bicycle tube, a bit bitter are nicely interwoven in the rum's creaminess.With resting, minty notes are replaced with menthol.The fruits that arise newly are cherries and some citrus and the wood is smoky...Great, full bodied, round rum.👌 9,2:The finish is long a bit more bitter, still creamy and round, dry, dirtier as most of notes from palate linger on with some herbaceous touch..

After 3h breathing in the glass we venture slowly! Undoubtedly a Caroni and what one. Something comes out, tar, bicycle tube the full workshop! Very very deep and dark, brown sugar, mocha! Wow! On the palate, it gets even more, really heavy equipment, tar, mint, bitter and a lot of barrel, it seems partly if he was already over it and the barrel has already taken too much influence, but no, a very big! Incredibly long finish with all the aforementioned influences. A special representative of the 1994 vintage and a very special Caroni that you must have tried as a lover! I am very happy to have tasted this!

Tyhle technický heavy caroni miluju! Ve vůni je guma, ředidlo, dřevo a kůže. Po napití člověk požvýká duši od kola, zabalená do hromady dřeva. Komplexní silnej rum. 23 let v tropech mu dáva neuvěřitelnou vyzrálost. Epickej zážitek!

It really must be emphasized once again how unique these Caronis are in the rum world. You really can't find this complexity and heaviness anywhere else. Yes, they are insanely expensive these days, but they are worth every penny. It's great fun to have a rum like this in your glass. If only I had entered the rum world earlier...

What a great rum, really nice!

Initially quite bitter and minty Caroni. However, with some rest and oxidation unfolds a highly complex and first-class rum!

This one is a bit "sharper" than the normal Caroni. Very well balanced and a great drop.

Quite dirty, very little fruit, lots of wood/spice tones and mint. I really enjoy it. Develops a higher complexity after years in the open bottle. The 1994 vintage is clearly too dirty (which is cool) and too unbalanced for a better rating.

Initially very good, also sweetness, then very present dirt notes, in the finish already clear bitterness!

Update: The last rest of the sample has improved in quality and the rum has gained more life and fruit. Definitely a good bottle to have open for a long time. 👌 Great tropical Caroni. Nice and dirty with a pleasantly small (but fine) residual sweetness, nice wood astringency & mint/menthol and burnt sugar/caramel with leather and tobacco. With patience, some nut & nougat on the nose plus 🍌 and after a long lingering time some mango / dried mango or a (very small) hint of tropical fruit on the palate.
