HSE Sélection B.R.I - Très Vieux Agricole

How does this rum taste?
Most love the pastry nose, vanilla‑almond profile and easy drinkability. Critics find the palate more standard and a bit too reduced. Consensus: a very likeable, American‑oak driven young agricole.
If you enjoy smoother agricoles like J.M XO or gentler bourbon-cask rums, this is a safe, pastry-forward bottle that trades raw intensity for comfort and easy sipping.
Fans of intense, high-ABV or very grassy agricoles, and anyone seeking maximum complexity or a totally cask-neutral, terroir-focused profile.

The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.

Very soft nose. Frank woodiness without being too pronounced. Vanilla and almond. On the palate, extremely soft and round at first, almost caramelized. Then woody and vanilla. A touch of coconut. The finish is similar. Caramel and wood. Quite pleasant and easy to drink. Surprising profile for an agricole.
Too marked by the American barrel
Compared to the J.M XO: the nose of the JM is better (bolder, more candy like). Tastewise the HSE maybe wins by a small difference for me: it’s more elegant with less harshness to it, more easy going. Overall they’re really close but I finished the HSE sooner so that would be the winner for me today 😅 but now I can sniff the JM some more 😋
Un beau représentant de Martinique, peu agé et pourtant déjà bien marqué par son fût.
