How does this rum taste?
RumX reviewers love the pronounced sherry influence: cherry, raisin and red-fruit aromas lead to a dry, woody palate with fig, cocoa and hints of clove or tobacco. Often described as less sweet than the brand’s usual style and enjoyable neat, even as an aperitif. A popular pick on RumX (109 reviews, strong buyer confidence), though some note a touch of alcohol bite or overly sherried, slightly artificial tones.

By rum lovers, for rum lovers
I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 24,000 bottlings, 250,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 47,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.
This is a rum which was finished in 5 different casks. First finish is done in American oak bourbon casks and then 18 months in 4 different sherry casks; Fino, Pedro Ximinez, Cream and Palo Cortado. A very nice long velvety finish.
So, the third Don Papa and then it's enough! Clear, clearly sherry on the nose. Slightly sulfured, artificial grape and cherry. Also something spicy smoky woody, direction cherry wood I like to hear. Then clearly caramel and burnt sugar. On the palate, the sherry comes first, with something toasty and woody. But it can't hide the origin (artificial orange-vanilla sugar water). A bit more towards cherry, but thin and too sweet at the back. Don Papa is and remains for me the lowest level. Bad spirit but with super marketing.
8,5:The nose is balanced, round, with molasses, strongly roasted nuts with smokiness, camphor and red fruits, ripe banana. Tangerine brings its bitterness and acidity, making for a rather lively finish. Over time, camphor and wax take on an increasingly medicinal quality. With time, the varnished wood and minty notes come to the fore. It is soft and warm, exhaling aromas of vanilla tobacco and nuts. 8,3:The palate is dry and astringent, as the sherry cask would suggest. Once again, camphor takes a large slice of the aroma cake. The profile is medicinal, resinous, bit spicy and a little roasted. The blend is quite concentrated, with intense vanilla, ripe exotic fruit and resin, followed by a hint of cereal. 8,3:The finish is quite long and juicy, with exotic fruit and cherry pie, confectionery like.I like this rum, no joke!🙂
