I believe it was around 2013 that St. Nicholas Abbey started distilling and there older rums are aged on site but were distilled at Foursquare. Therefore I believe this rum was distilled at Foursquare. It is quite woody and my resounding impression from when I first tried it was that 20 years of tropical aging had left it over oaked. However on tasting it now, after some air has been left in the top of the bottle for a while, it doesn’t seem over oaked. The wood is very present but it is followed by sweetness (candied/ caramel) and fruit (apricot, coconut, banana). Very enjoyable to sip and the flavours are plenty present at the 40% ABV.
