“Tasting of a complimentary sample, in a Benedictine glass. Upon opening, a brief, sudden malted barley fragrance. Big, fat tears. A beautiful coppery aspect tinged with dark yellow notes. The nose is buttery, sweet and salty, almost brioche-like. Spices, a few candied fruits (raisins), candied roots (ginger) and just-ripe tropical fruits (plantain, starfruit, young mango, etc.) It's quite pastry-like. On the palate, a lively first sip of Creole cooking spices. Then, a small bed of tropical fruit cooked in the pot lines the sides of the mouth. Gradually, the fruit becomes sweeter. The butteriness of the nose returns, but less pronounced. A subtle woodiness builds the palate, but remains in the background. Medium-length finish, rather astrigent. A little stewed fruit juice remains on the palate. Good, well-made, lacking a little depth.”
