Introducing the La Reunion 19, a remarkable rum produced at the Savanna distillery in Reunion and selected and bottled by the independent bottler, The Duchess. Distilled in 2003 and aged for 19 years, this limited release contains only 238 bottles with a cask strength of 67.2% ABV. Rum enthusiasts have described its aroma as woody, roasted, fruity, tobacco, and dried fruit, with flavors leaning towards spicy, woody, roasted, barrel, and earthy. This complex and intense rum has a wonderful balance, and although the high alcohol content is noticeable, it complements the overall experience. “A lovely earthy cellar nose with moisture-attacked wood, caramel and bitumen. The palate is dark and perfumed, an obsolete perfume, with decadent fruit, earth and wood. The length is medium, marked by wood and earthiness. The empty glass brings out discreet bitter wood aromas on the palate, with perfume lingering on top. A perfumed old woman wanders through the rubble of an old wooden house with bitumen patches torn from the roof.”

“Nice fruity and toasty nose, fruit in coffee. Alcohol in the nose not yet perceptible, on the palate could be better integrated. But maybe it's the form of the day, after all, he has over 67%. Actually very tasty and I would have liked to give more points, but in the finish it is a bit too woody for me. There the 19 years of tropical storage strike through. Despite the long storage time, he has not quite lost the Agricole character for me.”

“Very spicy and heavy... Alcohol in nose hardly to be perceived on the palate already strong ... I do not mind it. fruit initially rather in the background but comes after ca.45min through and he makes up nicely. the largely tropical storage you notice clearly.”

“A beautiful Savanna! Floral-earthy and marked by a eucalyptus note, this rum shows the typical profile of the distillery (although Savanna has of course very different styles in stock!). In addition, dark and spicy, so that you can taste the 19 years in the barrel quite. Deductions are made for the yet very present alcohol and a slightly clean aftertaste. Overall, however, a tasty bottling as I find, but which is also not cheap!”

“Surprisingly, I had the impression of having a Guyana in my mouth. Very woody, peppery and spicy, a hint of caramel with a nice roundness. A fine product! Edit: Now that it's opened, I also have cherry alcohol on the nose and red fruits. Superb.”

“A great very intense rum. The high alcohol content is clearly noticeable here. But that is not a drawback. The nose is first a bit closed but then comes with a great fruit / barrel mixture with a pleasant freshness. The palate is under the influence of the barrel. Nicely astringent. All intense and powerful. Great. However, not much has remained of the Agricole.”

“Bold rum, orgy of flavours (a few drops of water may open the variety of aromas), great alchohol integration for 67%. Maturation in tropical conditions. Oak, spices, jam, brine, dark chocolate, leather, varnish, sweet&sour fruits, roasted nuts, tobacco, umami. Requires and rewards patience. Edit: this Dutchess benefits from aeration. Additional notes of mint and motor oil in the background. Tastes bellow 67% - a true mastercraft. 90 points for me.”
