“Definitely not a straightforward Navy blend. Impressive complexity, much Jamaican influence, the high age is clearly recognizable. Mint, eucalyptus, tropical fruits, wood, spices...impressive! As a lover of complex rums, I feel perfectly picked up here. Definitely not a standard Navyrum because the heavy Guyana notes are almost entirely underrepresented, but that doesn't change the fact that this is an exquisite release. Chapeau!”

“Crass Navy Blend! Alcohol top integrated, extremely complex. For me, especially Dominant after sour cherries, grilled limes, strong rum raisins, neat ester from Jamaica but also a lot of dirty notes like from caroni rums, as well as a lot of wood and bitter tannins. I like it incredibly well! Finish is almost infinite...🤤”

“Exzellenter Stoff Holz, tropische Früchte, Minze / Eukalyptus Sehr intensiv und extrem Komplex. Eine fortlaufende Veränderung im Glas. Nachtrag: erneut verkostet und nochmal 2 Punkte nach oben korregiert. Dieser Blend ist wirklich hervorragend geworden.”

“RumX Awards 2023. An old-fashioned patissier's boutique, all varnished woodwork. But also leather, stewed fruit, vanilla, cocoa, buttery pastries and citrus. An incredible variety of aromas, yet a coherent nose. A very smooth attack for this high ABV. Unfortunately, not all the promises of the nose are fulfilled, and the aromas are more limited, both in breadth and depth. The finish is long, with dark aromas that gently give way to fruit and a certain pleasant freshness. An absolutely exceptional rum on the nose, a little disappointing on the palate with a very fine finish. The palate is perhaps a little too polished and wise to be really exciting.”

“Was für eine Abfüllung! Ein Navy-Blend der es in sich hat und gleichzeitig so wenig Navy ist, wie 64,35% sind. Man spürt deutlich das Alter der einzelnen Bestandteile und einen deutlich Schwung Jamaika, der erst von Hampden, dann aber vom EMB dominiert wird. Man mag gar nicht trinken, ob der Komplexität in der Nase, die immer wieder andere Aromen und Hinweise auf die Bestandteile bringt. Traut man sich dann doch, bekommt man auch hier ein wahnsinnig gutes Potpourri an Aromen präsentiert. Einzig allein die etwas starke Eukalyptus-Note, die ich dem EMB zuschreiben würde, ist für meinen Geschmack zu dominant. Dahinter spielt aber das ganze Orchester Vollgas, von fruchtigen Estern bis zu dunklen Noten aus Guyana, dazu ordentlich Holz bei den verschiedenen Jahrgängen. Einzigartig!”

“Spirit of Rum propose ici un assemblage audacieux et unique en son genre. Le profil olfactif unique est très complexe, on y décèle des notes fruitées sur la cerise aigre, le pruneau et les fruits tropicaux, puis le nez s’assombrit avec le bois, le cuir, le chocolat noir, les notes rôties et les épices (vanille, piment, réglisse). Viennent ensuite des notes légèrement sucrées, puis des notes phénoliques (esters, colle), mentholées et herbacées. C’est un blend aussi riche que complexe, qui se veut très sophistiqué. En bouche, le changement est radical. Si la Guyana et la Jamaïque semblait dominer au nez, Trinidad a pris le dessus au palais avec des notes de fraîcheur mentholée, florale et herbacée avec l’eucalyptus. On retrouve également un côté sale sur l’hydrocarbure, un boisé sombre, des notes fumées, du cuir, des tanins et de l’amertume. Les épices sont chaudes, les fruits secs et les agrumes un peu plus vifs. Le profil est très intense, très évolutif et bien équilibré avec les saveurs. L’alcool est très bien intégré. La finale est très longue, tannique, à la fois chaleureuse sur les épices et fraîche sur le menthol, le thé noir et les herbes aromatiques. Beaucoup de notes sombres ressurgissent avec le boisé, le cuir, le chocolat noir, le piment, la réglisse et les notes fumées. Les agrumes et les fruits secs apportent une certaine profondeur en fin de bouche. Un navy blend surprenant, mystique, riche et passionnant.”

“RumX Advent 24.12.23 Dunkle und rote Früchte, Traubenzucker, dezent aber präsentes Holz, trocken Minze, intensiv, Kirschen, Limetten, kräuter, etwas öliges, Johannisbeere, nasses Holz Er ist intensiv, kräftig dennoch rund. Bitter, Fruchtig, krass komplex und vielseitig. Crazy Rum. Macht sehr viel Spass. Was da wohl alles drin ist? Man könnte versuchen es zu kopieren. Btw. blind niemals herausgefunden. Viel zu komplex als das man hier etwas hätte vermuten können. Definitiv das Highlight des diesjährigen Kalenders. Edit: extrem exquisiter Rum”

“An der Nase kein ‚klassischer‘ Navy blend, er hat wenig gemein mit den Originalen der Royal Navy (oder dem Black Tot Last Consignment). Ist es deswegen ein schlechter Rum? Keineswegs! Für mich erinnert der HQNB sehr stark an EMB 95, gerade an den sehr guten Rumclub Ed. 27. Im Hintergrund auch etwas das mich an Campari oder Bitterorange erinnert. Am Gaumen kommt dann noch einiges aus dem Maschinenraum und altes Eichenfass dazu. Ein schöner, langer Abgang mit viel Fass/Tanninen und leichter Bitterkeit.”

“Even though this rum has nothing to do with Gardel, its bitter wood notes remind me of the 83 Gardel bottling. In addition, mix in a very complex rum esters from Jamaica, eucalyptus from Guyana and some "dirt" from Trinidad. The alcohol is perfectly integrated, so that one may experience a fantastic taste journey here.”

“Das ist mal ein Blend! Ohne die genaue Zusammensetzung zu kennen, gehe ich davon aus, dass die jeweiligen Reste der zuletzt abgefüllten High Quality Rums den Weg in diese Flasche gefunden haben. Das sagt mir jedenfalls die Nase und der Gaumen! Nase: intensiv, kräftig, rund und wundervoll. Würzig-fruchtig-holzig. Blutorange, Sauerkirsche, schwarze Johannisbeere mit trop. Früchten und süßer Zitrone, daneben aromatisches Holz, Sahnetoffe, Nougat, Lakritze, Vanille und zart Tabak. Gleichzeitig feine Ester, leicht Essig. Eine feine Frische von Minze kommt hinzu. Ganz klar: mind. JAM, TTO & GUY! 93 Gaumen: kräftig, intensiv und ordentlich adstringent zu Beginn. Salzig-bitter, dann gleich intensive Minze. Frische wird unterstrichen durch Limettenschale. Leicht pfeffrig und holzig. 87 Top Rum!”
