It has a complex aroma of esters, funky fruit, pineapple, and woody notes. On the palate it has tropical fruit, funky notes, roasted flavors and overripe banana. Mal als Vertikale: der 98er Colours of Rum HLCF gegen den 92er RumClub Ed. 18 Treasure Cask (der für mich ganz oben rangiert bei den 92er HLCFs). Der CoR sticht ein wenig mehr an der Nase obwohl der ABV bei beiden quasi identisch ist (58,7% vs 58,6%). Was die Aromenpalette anbetrifft, macht sich die längere Reifung beim RC deutlich bemerkbar: der CoR ist eher bei vergorenen Früchten, Zitrusnoten und Sauerrahm. Beim RC habe ich etwas süßlichere Zitronenmarmelade, Backgewürze, Orangenabrieb, und ein wenig grünen Apfel (hatte ich bei den ersten Verkostungen gar nicht so ausgemacht). Am Gaumen sind es dann wiederum eher Kleinigkeiten. Der RC geht (insb. im Abgang) etwas mehr Richtung Fass/Vanille.

Got a sample of this for free from RumX. It’s a pot still single cask rum distilled in 1998 whereafter it has been continental aged for 23 years in an ex-rum oak barrel before bottled in 247 bottles at 58,7%. It’s an HLCF, which is quite esters rich. Overall a complex, funky, esters rich and flavorful rum.

Leider eher ein schwächerer Vertreter des 98er Jahrgangs. Ein Profil welches ich sehr schätze. Benchmark ist für mich hier der RA HD 98 und TRC HD 98 „The Beast“. Habe die beiden neuen Abfüllungen von Colours of Rum direkt vergleichen und No.7 ist einen Tick schlechter als No.6 in meinen Augen. Die längere Lagerung hat dem Rum nicht gut getan. Weder in der Nase noch am Gaumen will sich richtiges HD 98 Feeling einstellen. Im Abgang noch etwas Holzigkeit. Preislich mit 220€ für 0,7 Liter auch sportlich angesiedelt. Davon wandert keine Flasche in meine Sammlung. Edition 7 bekommt 83 Punkte.

Crosstasting mit RX14116 Dieser ist an der Nase nicht so lebendig und vielseitig wie RX14116. Dafür ist eine schöne Joghurt/Butter Note dabei. Am Gaumen milder als RX14116, wirkt wie ca. 8% weniger Alkoholgehalt, tatsächlich sind es nur 3% weniger. Toller langer Nachklang mit schönen Übergang von holzig-würzig zu trocken-salzig mit Oliven! Der Nachklang von diesem Rum gefällt mit sehr gut und deshalb lege ich hier 3 Punkte drauf. Unterm Strich sind die beiden Abfüllungen unterschiedlicher als ich erwartet habe. Dieser erscheint mir wie eine intensivere Version der HD GH 2020. TOP!

Guter Rum, aber für einen 1998 HLCF kein Kracher. Besonders nicht zum aufgerufenen Preis. Die beiden (No6 und No7) sind sich sehr ähnlich. Die fast gleiche Farbe der Etiketten ist daher eigentlich fast schon lustig. Der 7 gewinnt für mich an der Nase, der 6er am Gaumen
