Got a sample of this rum for free from RumX. It’s a pot still distilled Hampden distilled in 1998 whereafter it’s continental aged for 23 years in an ex-Rum barrel before bottled in 255 bottles at 61,9%. Overall a great Hampden HLCF that’s complex, funky and esters rich.

Unfortunately, rather a weaker representative of the 98 vintage. A profile which I appreciate very much. Benchmark is for me here the RA HD 98 and TRC HD 98 "The Beast". Have the two new bottlings of Colours of Rum directly compare and No.7 is a tad worse than No.6 in my eyes. The longer storage has not done the rum good. Neither in the nose nor on the palate wants to set real HD 98 feeling. In the finish still some woodiness. Price with 220 € for 0.7 liters also sporty settled. No bottle of this will go into my collection. Edition 6 gets 84 points.

Crosstasting with RX14117Nose: the range of aromas is noticeably wider. On the palate first quite alcoholic. Mature, well balanced Hampden.Finish fruity-spicy.A very good and strong funky Hampden but without special feature. In this rum, the alcohol is not integrated well enough for me and RX14116 has the more interesting for me aftertaste. Therefore, I give here 3 points less.Bottom line, the two bottlings are more different than I expected.

Good rum, but for a 1998 HLCF no firecracker. Especially not at the price called. The two (No6 and No7) are very similar. So the almost identical color of the labels is actually almost funny. The 7 wins for me on the naser and the No 6 on the palate

Nice Hampden but nothing to write home about as it lacks something that stands out to make it a little more special.

Round and not so aromatic Jamaica. Edit- I bet it is Hampden. My body always reacts with reflux when drinking Hampden :)
