How does this rum taste?
The Real McCoy 3 Years is a versatile rum distilled at the renowned Foursquare distillery in Barbados, known for its molasses base and aging time of three years. Distinctively marked by prominent banana notes in both aroma and taste, it carries undertones of vanilla, melon, and a hint of glue on the nose. Users find this rum suitable primarily for cocktails, with several appreciating its value and flavor intensity as a mixer. While some describe it as having a short finish and noticeable alcohol edge, others commend its surprising fruitiness and cost-effectiveness. Its alcoholic presence makes it a bold choice for those exploring new flavors.

By rum lovers, for rum lovers
I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 24,000 bottlings, 250,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 47,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.
Retasting this rum 😊 This rum can actually be used as a sipper but I think most will use it in mixers. It will probably be used by most for a drink or punch. But it's also a really good sipping rum. Price to quality is very good.
Not too bad for sipping if you are into that but Excellent for cocktails
Rum is fun because of all the differences you find. This rum has earthy, grassy aromas with hints of spice and vanilla. Flavor is very similar with earthy and vanilla and a hint of spice
Lots of people seem to like this but my immediate reaction was it tasted like “cheap alcohol”. Much more edge than most rums I enjoy. But then I realized maybe it’s not a style I’m used to so I kept tasting. I started to recognize its flavor as musty and woody, which may be a taste I could acquire with more tastings. I think “musty old house” when I think of this rum. I get no funk or fruit, which I normally associate with round banana notes.
