How does this rum taste?
- Good balance between elements
- Rich and full-bodied nose
- A bonbon, more finesse than complexity
Trois Rivières Millésime 1999, aged 17 years, stands out for its woody, dried fruit, vanilla, and tropical fruit notes. Many RumX members highlight its approachable and gentle profile—"a bonbon, more finesse than complexity" (Pascal Gwada)—with a balanced palate and moderate complexity. Drinkers often mention the “wood dominates on both nose and taste” (François Delmotte), and agree its smoothness is notable. The low ABV splits opinion: while some appreciate its easy nature, others, like Kevin Sorensen, "can't stop wondering what it would have turned out at a higher ABV." Best enjoyed after a bit of aeration, which brings out more depth.

"Though the ABV is relatively low they have still managed to put a lot of flavour into this release. I'd say the nose is light and elegant at the same time. Good balance between the elements in the profile. Can't stop wondering what it would have turned out at a higher ABV."
"A rum that unfortunately struggles to convince. The nose is reserved, light and sweet, concentrated on shy notes of wood, sugar cane, tropical fruits, caramel and sweet spices. In the mouth, the rum unfortunately develops little with similar flavors, very sweet but without any surprise. The finish, average in length, raises the level with an appreciable saline and iodized touch but not enough to mark the imprint of the rum in the mouth. Clearly not the most complex and accomplished of what Trois Rivières can offer, but will be easy to access for the non-initiated in agricultural rum."
"My second agricole sample of the day. Slightly better than the Saint James that I had but I was not totally convinced by this rum. Very light in flavours in the beginning even though they were a little more pronounced with the last couple of sips. This isn’t a rum that I would purchase but I’m glad to have sampled it."
