The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.
This rum is overflowing with dark notes from raisins and dates to mocha and burnt caramel. The nose jives with the palette and the medium-long finish keeps it going. A great way of experiencing such a rum at a reasonable price for a half bottle.
I am a fan of Pot Still rums but this is not my favorite product. Maybe it's that astringent aftertaste that tastes like slightly oxidized red wine or that earthy touch that doesn't sit well with me or just isn't for me. But if I think about the appeal of Pot Still Versailles, then I may as well turn a blind eye :)
NOSE: stewed fruits in wine, moldy grapes, raisin, varnished mahogany, tropical hardwoods, plums in syrup. PALATE: thick raisin syrup, old french oak casks, px sherry. FINISH: bitter tannins, dry red wine, dried figs, dark chocolate, a little ashy... a tiny bit mint / eucalyptus on the end. OVERALL: this is a lovely dessert dram. you’d think it was aged in a sherry cask. perhaps not the most complex, but all the notes are well balanced in a delicious harmony. SCORE: 85/100
